Book your Autumn Cafe reservation on ResyOneonta, NY, named from an Iroquoian word meaning "Place of Open Rocks," grew from early settlements like McDonald's Mills into a village in 1848 and a city in 1908, significantly boosted by the arrival of the Albany and Susquehanna Railroad in 1865, fostering industry and later becoming home to SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick College, solidifying its role as a central NY hub with a distinct "City of the Hills" character. Early Days & Naming:Origins: Settled under names like McDonald's Mills, Bridge, and Milfordville, it was officially renamed Oneonta in 1832. Meaning: The name comes from an Iroquoian word meaning "Place of Open Rocks". The city of Oneonta (Otsego County's only city) now supports the thriving sports tourism industry centered around Cooperstown baseball parks. Many excellent food and beverage choices exist throughout the county and the Autumn is happy to share wonderful customers from near and far with them.
